This depot is set to serve electric trucks that span a gamut of routes connecting the agricultural heart of the San Joaquin Valley and the bustling warehousing hubs to various strategic points, including the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles and beyond.
Furthermore, the project benefited from a generous $5 million subsidy provided by the California Energy Commission—as a segment of Governor Newsom’s extensive Climate Commitment financial package. California Air Resources Board Chair, Liane Randolph, underscored the depot’s importance in transitioning to zero-emission truck transport and in achieving California’s overarching climate objectives.
Amazon’s Electric Truck Fleet Launch in Los Angeles
A collaborative event attended by Los Angeles Mayor Bass, representatives from the Biden Administration, and the Port of Los Angeles celebrated the rollout of Amazon’s most massive armada of heavy-duty electric trucks thus far. Southern California will see nearly 50 such vehicles reinforcing hundreds of electric vans that Amazon has already integrated across the state. These vehicles form a critical link in Amazon’s supply chain, from initial manufacture through to delivery into the company’s extensive fulfillment network. Amazon’s Udit Madan, vice president of Worldwide Operations, expressed pride in this latest venture, stating the importance of these electric vehicles in the larger scheme of decarbonizing heavy-duty trucking and in fostering broader sustainability within the trucking arena.
