As of 2023, China boasts an astounding 60% share of the world’s plugin vehicle sales, solidifying its position as the heart of the EV revolution.

Volkswagen’s Strategic Moves in the Chinese EV Market

In an era of electrification, Volkswagen has grand visions for its EV lineup in China. Aligning with the Auto China 2024 motor show, the company announced plans to release 30 fully electric models in China by 2030, extending across various group brands. The groundwork for these vehicles is laid by Volkswagen China Technology Company (VCTC), a subsidiary that ascribes to an “in China, for China” philosophy. This approach is integral to their strategy, as demonstrated by the announcement of the China Main Platform (CMP), a bespoke electric architecture for the creation of four compact-class EVs scheduled for production in 2026.

Unveilings and Debuts: What to Expect from Volkswagen Group’s Brands

The Volkswagen brand plans to captivate Chinese consumers with the unveiling of a unique concept car and the introduction of a fresh addition to the ID. series. Audi gears up to showcase new BEV models, namely the Q6L e-tron making its world debut and iterations like the SQ6 e-tron and Q5 e-tron RS edition. Porsche is set to reveal the 8th Taycan variant, specifically fashioned for China, and tease the all-electric Macan, boasting luxury and performance tailored for the market. Lamborghini will also join the electrification march with an anticipated PHEV model premiere.

As the world turns its gaze to the future of mobility, Volkswagen Group’s endeavors in China signal a robust commitment to electrification and innovation, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive and dynamic EV market.
