The first annual Kia EV Day took place on October 12, 2023, where the company officially unveiled three new battery electric models. These models, known as the EV3, EV4, and EV5, are part of Kia’s commitment to simplicity. All three are built on the company’s E-GMP platform, which supports either 400- or 800-volt architecture. Higher voltages enable faster charging, making these electric cars even more convenient for users.
Kia EV9: The Ideal SUV for American Drivers
The EV9 is Kia’s largest electric car and serves as the all-electric counterpart to the Kia Telluride SUV. With its spacious 3-row, 7-passenger design, the EV9 offers ample room for both passengers and cargo. Although it may not have the sporty GT aesthetics, the EV9 is perfect for comfortably transporting a large group of people and their belongings. Note: While the EV3 is not available for production yet, it is anticipated to be ready for production soon.
Kia’s Efforts in the US Market
Unfortunately, Kia does not have plans to manufacture the EV5 and EV3 in the US. This decision can be attributed to the current demand for three-row SUVs in the American market. However, this means that these models will not be eligible for federal EV tax incentives/rebates, potentially impacting their competitiveness against other EVs in the US. Kia aims to offer affordable EV options, and while pricing details were not released during EV Day, the price range for these three new electric cars is expected to be between $30,000 and $50,000.
Kia EV4: Redefining EV Sedans
In addition to the EV3 and EV5, Kia introduced the EV4 sedan concept at EV Day. Sporting an innovative design, this sedan concept builds on Kia’s commitment to redefine entire vehicle sectors. While the EV4 resembles the EV6 with a flatter rear section, it represents a unique and groundbreaking type of EV sedan. With its sleek and spacious interior, the EV4 offers a minimalistic and unobtrusive driving experience.
