In a landmark event, Ventyr Energi and Norwegian officials formalized their collaboration to advance the nation’s wind energy industry. Energy Minister Terje Aasland, marking the occasion, asserted that Sørlige Nordsjø II will spearhead Norway’s efforts to create an impactful offshore wind sector.
As the winners of the nation’s inaugural offshore wind auction, the Ventyr Energi consortium, encompassing Parkwind and Ingka Investments, will now begin to realize the potential of this groundbreaking project.
A Competitive Auction Sets the Scene
Earlier in 2023, Norway opened its doors to competitive applications for the development of offshore wind resources. The auction, introducing a 1.5 gigawatts (GW) capacity at both Sørlige Nordsjø II and Utsira Nord, garnered interest from significant industry players.
In a prelude to the auction, five groups demonstrated their credentials and were shortlisted to bid. These included Aker Offshore Wind, BP, and Statkraft; a joint effort from Equinor and RWE; EnBW’s subsidiary Norseman Wind; and an alliance of Shell, Lyse, and Eviny, besides the eventual winners, Ventyr.
