New York City is gearing up for a sustainable future with its latest project, a colossal EV charging hub near one of its bustling airports.

Wildflower Spearheads the Largest EV Charging Station in NYC

In the quest for environmental progress, urban infrastructure developer Wildflower has been tapped by NYCEDC to establish the city’s grandest EV station, catering to the growing demand for electric vehicle support.

Strategic Location with Ample Capacity

Strategically positioned beside JFK Airport, the upcoming facility will occupy a generous 2.3-acre site, strategically poised between Nassau Expressway and Rockaway Boulevard. It’s set to feature an impressive array of 65 chargers, incorporating 12 high-speed DC charging points, operating around the clock for maximum convenience.

Future-Proof Design & Construction Timelines

The innovative design of the EV station emphasizes scalability, fully prepared to expand alongside the inevitable surge in electric vehicle adoption. It’s particularly visionary in anticipating the electrification of cargo and shipping trucks in proximity to the airport. Eyeing a 2025 completion date, the station could power up a thousand vehicles yearly, with ready provisions for adding more chargers.

Solution to Local Parking Woes

This charging station isn’t just about EVs—it’s also setting out to solve local parking issues. Its placement aims to ease the congestion in nearby neighborhoods and to anchor southeastern Jamaica, Queens, as a pivotal charging locus.

Backing from NYC’s Department of Transportation

NYC’s commitment to an electric-driven future is exemplified by projects like this. The NYC Department of Transportation‘s commissioner, Ydanis Rodriguez, highlighted this initiative as a cornerstone in the strategy to proliferate EV charging stations citywide.

With the support of Mayor Eric Adams’s administration, this project marks a significant leap forward in NYC’s ambitious electrification pursuits, aligning with broader goals to ease the shift towards clean transportation options.
