Peter Leeson, CEO of the Leeson Group, recently sat down for a video interview to discuss the advancements of the Volt solar roof tile. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Peter provided valuable insights into the domestic and global market for their innovative product. Despite a busy schedule filled with back-to-back meetings, Peter generously shared his time and information during the interview.
The Volt Solar Roof Tile: A Unique and Efficient Solution
Described on the company’s website, the Volt solar roof tile utilizes a Metal Wrap Through (MWT) cell technology and a busbar-free design to enhance the efficiency of solar cells. This unique approach increases efficiency while incorporating a built-in cable containment system, making the roof space safer by eliminating live wires. Additionally, the Volt solar tile seamlessly interlocks with surrounding tiles, ensuring a waterproof rooftop.
According to the company’s website, the Volt Planum and Lodge solar tiles are the world’s first solar tiles capable of generating an equivalent amount of energy as a standard solar panel. The Planum module boasts a market-leading efficiency of 18.8%, while the Volt Lodge solar tile achieves an impressive efficiency of 19.5% with its MWT mono PERC module.
Expansion and Partnerships for Global Reach
The Volt solar tile is available for new builds and reroofing solutions through Bristile roofing in Australia and roof tile manufacturer La Escandella, based in Spain, for global distribution. To scale its operations, Volt Australia has partnered with 40 solar sales and installation businesses across the country, with plans to scale up to 100 partners. One of the main selling points in Australia is the ease of installation. Compared to a standard solar panel system, which takes several days to install, the Volt system can be installed in hours.
As for its global ambitions, Volt has already completed 15 installations in countries such as Australia, Spain, France, and Turkey, with many more in the pipeline. Despite a 12-month planning and construction process for each project, Peter projects a significant increase in installations by 2025, with several thousand systems installed worldwide per year.
Volt is also making strides in the United States, with plans to collaborate with distributors, including a partnership with Santa Fe Tile based in Miami, Florida. By December/January 2024, the company expects to complete its first projects in the US.
Environmental Commitment and Customer Experience
Volt prioritizes sustainability and protecting the environment. The company has identified partners who share these values, like Santa Fe Tile, to ensure a strong commitment to preserving the environment. In terms of customer experience, Volt offers a simple process for selecting and customizing tiles through their website. Customers can choose their desired tile and color, while also having the option to address design issues during the enquiry form process.
Peter Leeson and the Leeson Group’s dedication to creating innovative and efficient solar solutions, such as the Volt solar roof tile, is driving the company’s success as it expands both domestically and globally.
