Rome’s quest for a more sustainable transportation system has taken a significant stride forward with Solaris‘s successful bids to deliver innovative buses to the city. In an impressive feat, Solaris has landed not one, but two pivotal contracts that potentially value up to a staggering EUR 200 million, inclusive of long-term maintenance services.

Mild Hybrid Buses to Pave the Way for a Greener Rome

Several months back, a pivotal event unfolded as Solaris outshone competitors in a tender initiated by Gubielo Spa on behalf of ATAC Roma, securing the deal to supply 110 articulated mild hybrid vehicles. These 110 hybrid buses, boasting cutting-edge mild hybrid technology, are poised to roll onto Rome’s streets come 2024. This win underscores the trust and reliability that Solaris has fostered with its innovative and competitive offerings.

From Gasoline to Gas: CNG Buses Joining the Fleet

The advancement in Rome’s public transport does not halt with electric hybrids. The latest news has Solaris clinching another order for 244 Urbino 12 CNG buses from Gubielo Spa and ATAC Roma. These buses, fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG), represent a leap toward cleaner, more eco-friendly public transit. Moreover, there’s potential for this fleet to expand by an additional 78 units, subject to the decisions of the contracting authority in the forthcoming months.

A Decade of Service Commitment

As part of their comprehensive approach, Solaris isn’t just supplying buses but is also committing to a decade of servicing these vehicles. This end-to-end service proposition solidifies the company’s role not just as a supplier, but as a long-term partner in Rome’s public transit infrastructure.

Solaris and Rome: A Growing Relationship

These newly ordered buses are not Rome’s inaugural experience with Solaris vehicles. The history dates back to 2003-2004 when Solaris first provided 30 trolleybuses to ATAC, and more than 700 InterUrbino buses are currently in use for regional transport in Rome’s outskirts, testament to a solidifying relationship between Solaris and the Italian capital.

Solaris’s Italian Footprint

The commitment to Italy goes beyond Rome, as Solaris has proudly delivered over 1800 vehicles countrywide, marking Italy as a key market in Solaris’s expansive portfolio. It’s clear that with each contract, Solaris seeks to not only expand its presence but also to drive forward a future where public transport is increasingly aligned with environmental sustainability.
