In a strategic move to ramp up its battery production capabilities, Toyota Motor Corporation has forged an agreement with Panasonic Holdings Corporation to absorb Primearth EV Energy Co., Ltd. (PEVE) as a fully owned subsidiary. This acquisition marks a significant step for Toyota and is slated for completion by the end of March.

Bolstering Battery Production Synergies

Toyota has cultivated a robust network of affiliated companies, such as Toyota Industries Corporation and Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, Inc., the latter being a collaborative venture with Panasonic, each holding substantial shares. These entities have been pivotal in the mass production of batteries for various electric vehicles, including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs). By bringing PEVE under Toyota’s full ownership, the company aims to fortify collaboration, expanding their collective expertise to mass-produce batteries for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) as well.
