Unveiling Southeast Asia’s First Tidal Energy Plant: A UK-Philippines Renewable Venture

Revolutionizing Renewable Energy in Southeast Asia with Tidal Power

Introducing the UK’s Innovative Tidal Energy Plant in the Philippines

Set to transform renewable energy in Southeast Asia, the UK-based Inyanga Marine Energy Group is embarking on an exciting journey to establish the region’s inaugural tidal energy facility. This groundbreaking project aims to electrify an off-grid island, showcasing a new era of sustainable power generation.

Collaboration with the Philippines’ Energies PH

Embracing the power of collaboration, Energies PH of the Philippines and its affiliate subsidiary, San Bernardino Ocean Power Corporation, have entered into a contract with Inyanga. This synergy is set to leverage Inyanga’s proprietary HydroWing technology, a cutting-edge tidal energy converter known for its innovative modular design that features several rotors and turbines for efficient energy harnessing.

Capul Island: A Strategic Location for Tidal Power

Nestled in the verdant surroundings of Capul Island in Northern Samar, the chosen site lies within the San Bernardino Strait, a natural conduit distinguished by its powerful marine currents. This prime location promises a conducive environment for tidal energy conversion.

From Diesel to Tidal: A Green Transition

The future tidal power installation, which will bear a striking resemblance to the vision of the main image, will be integrated into Capul Island’s microgrid, a system presently powered by a diesel plant. The island’s leap towards a clean 1 MW tidal facility, complemented by solar and battery storage solutions, signals an eco-friendly departure from fossil fuels.

Energies PH’s Vision for the Future

In a statement brimming with anticipatory zeal, Antonio Ver, Co-Chairman and CEO of Energies PH, shared his aspirations for the project. The initial tidal plant in Capul is deemed to be a catalyst, igniting a broader mission to deliver sustainable electricity nationwide, forging sustainable communities, and unlocking the potential for enhanced educational, health, and economic opportunities.

A Timeline for Clean Energy

With aspirations running high, the tidal energy endeavor on Capul Island is marked for completion by the end of 2025. This flagship project paves the way for additional tidal power plants, with prospects in San Antonio Island and Calintaan Island, signaling a future where clean, marine-generated electricity is within reach.
