(NMG). This partnership is a key step in enriching the supply chain from mine to market by utilizing locally sourced, sustainable materials.
Strategic Investments and Collaborations
With a strategic investment implicating an initial sum of USD 25 million in NMG, and plans for an additional influx of USD 150 million alongside co-investors, Panasonic Energy showcases its commitment to growing the EV market’s infrastructure. This follows the path set out by Mitsui & Co., Ltd., who are also adjusting their stakes in NMG to support the collaborative venture.

The historic agreement traces its origins back to a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2022 between the two companies, paving the way for advanced technological developments and optimized processes. The Value of Vertical Integration
NMG stands ready to operationalize its “mine-to-battery-material” vision by harnessing the output from its Matawinie Mine in Quebec. The company will further refine the natural graphite into anode active materials at its Bécancour plant. This integration solidifies NMG’s role as a powerhouse for North American battery material supply, tapping into Quebec’s bountiful renewable energy resources to create carbon-neutral graphite and concurrently halving Panasonic Energy’s carbon footprint by 2031.
